Lymphedema

The treatment for Lymphedema consists of four components:

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a Gentle, hands-on technique that enhances the activity of the lymph vessels and manually moves lymph fluid. Applied correctly, a series of MLD treatments will generally decrease the volume of the affected extremity to a normal or near normal size.

Graduated Compression Garments are necessary to maintain the reduced limb and are designed to replace the bandages that were used earlier in treatment.

Therapeutic Exercises - A skilled therapist will design an effective decongestive exercise program that assists the muscular system to move lymph fluid out of the affected area.

Meticulous Skin Care - Because patients are susceptible to infections of the skin, they are instructed by a therapist in proper cleansing and moisturizing techniques to maintain the health and integrity of the skin.

Vestibular Rehab

Should you choose Vestibular Rehabilitation, your treatment commences with an evaluation of the functional difficulties you are experiencing.

A discussion of your symptoms begins the session. An assessment is made of your musculoskeletal system by testing the strength, coordination, and range of movement of your arms and legs. Your balance and gait is evaluated by observing if you need to touch objects or fix your eyes on stationary objects, and by observing what hip and ankle strategy you use to maintain your balance.
